Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan Reducing Hospitalizations

1 in 5 patients face hospital re-admissions in Michigan health insurance. The University of Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan are taking actions to reduce this high ratio.

This statewide Michigan health insurance objective is called Project Boost. The focus is to improve hospital discharge requirements. This will prevent hospital re-admissions and therefore reduce costs. Almost 6.4 percent of patients discharged will return to hospitals with preventable problems. Estimated savings from Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan with this initiative are estimated at $75 million per year.
