New Hampshire Health Insurance
The state high risk pool is called the New Hampshire Health Plan (NHHP). It was created to provide health insurance to New Hampshire residents who are declined coverage from the carriers. Occurrences of this come through the private market and occur due to a pre-qualifying condition. The NHHP generally is intended to be the insurer of last resort for residents of the state. Before applying for coverage from the state applicants are encouraged to seek coverage from private insurance companies first.
The requirements are that you must be a resident of the state of new hampshire. A declination has to occur in the private market from indvidual health insurance carriers. Or a rider on the condition that you need covered along with a higher premium was presented at the time of your approval in the private market. There is also a list of pre-qualifying conditions. If the condition you have is on this list you can submit an application today for the high risk pool. Another qualifying event is the exhaustion of Cobra coverage. During the first nine months of NHHP coverage, insurance policies do not pay benefits for certain preexisting conditions.
For children in New Hampshire there is Healthy Kids (NHHK) through a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This non profit provides access to low cost and free health insurance coverage for uninsured children in New Hampshire.
Another source for finding low cost health care is the New Hampshire Health Access Network. This is a voluntary effort by providers that improves access to care for low income children and adults statewide. This is for people who do not have enough health insurance coverage and or enough money to pay for health care services. It includes 200 health care providers throughout the state.
