Montana Health Insurance
Residents who are uninsurable can utilize the Montana Comprehensive Health Association (MCHA) program. The program offers individual health insurance policies to eligible residents who are considered to be uninsurable due to medical conditions. MCHA is also available to people who are leaving group coverage.
The MCHA is referred to as the Montana high risk pool. It is also the coverage of last resort and is not intended to duplicate coverage from any other sources. The Montana Comprehensive Health Association health insurance plans are managed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and currently provide coverage to 3,600 Montanans.
The program offers, quality health insurance plans, accessibility for Montanans, and programs to manage health care claims and expenses.
MCHA was created by the Montana Legislature in 1985. This was to establish a program that provides access to health insurance for all Montana residents. The residents otherwise would be considered uninsurable due to medical conditions. It is for people who have been rejected for health insurance coverage or offered a policy with a rider on their health conditions.
