Minnesota Health Insurance
Minnesota offers a publicly subsidized program for residents called Minnesota Care. This for residents who do not have access to affordable health insurance coverage. It serves more than 100,000 people each and every month. This program is critical to Minnesota’s welfare reform strategy. They are trying to help people leave welfare and go to work without losing health insurance coverage.
If your Minnesota employer offers group benefits and pays at least half of the monthly cost you are not eligible. Some children may still be eligible.
Members of Minnesota Care do pay a monthly premium. This is determined by a sliding fee scale, which is based on income and size of your family.
Each county will have different plans depending upon which carriers are offering plans in their area. The program is funded by state tax from hospitals and providers in Minnesota. Also, included to help pay for the program are federal Medicaid matching funds and premiums.
