The carrier currently insures 3.4 million residents in the state. Their provider network includes 97,000 physicians and and 650 hospitals. During the first year of operations in 1940, 20,000 Californians subscribed and 5,000 physicians joined the pioneer prepaid healthcare service plan.

The carrier does business as the California Physicians Service, they offered the first health plan in the nation with coverage for pre-existing conditions under group programs in 1943. In the year 2000 they crossed the border in to Baja with their HMO plan which is now called Access Baja.
