Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico has been servicing the states health care needs since 1940. Currently they serve over 295,000 individuals, employees, and family members with the most comprehensive provider networks in the state. BCBSNM serves as the fiscal intermediary for Contract Health Services provided through Indian Health Service. They also administer the State of New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool for uninsured individuals and provide utilization review for the New Mexico Medicaid Program.
There are 11,200 providers in the HMO blue plan and 12,200 providers in the PPO plan. In 2001, BCBSNM was acquired by Health Care Service Corporation, a Mutual Legal Reserve Company. This acquisition provides the carrier with access to new technologies and capabilities.
