Golden Rule Insurance Review
I don’t get sick very often. However, I do like to make sure that I see a doctor at least once a year for my routine physical, routine well-woman exam, mammogram, etc. With that said, I am pleased with the fact that my policy covers these types of services at 100% with no out of pocked expenses. To date, I have never had any difficulties when being seen for a routine visit. The doctor sends the claims to my insurance company and they process the claims in a very expedient manner.
In the event I fall ill, my Golden Rule insurance contract clearly details the terms of my policy in a manner which I clearly understand. If I go to the doctor I pay a co-pay of $35 for the office visit. It was a bit frustrating to learn that the co-pay only covers the office visit, but when I also needed a mole removed, I had to pay additional cost for the procedure, and that money applied toward my deductible. However, I'm overall satisfied with the structure of the plan and the way it works.
When I applied for my policy I was given several deductible options. While I don’t get sick often, I don’t want to be overwhelmed with a financially devastating bill in the case of a major unexpected event. Therefore, I decided to play it safe with a $2500 deductible Copay Select, which wasn’t my lowest option, but is not outrageously high. My policy requires that I use healthcare providers who participate in the United Healthcare Choice Plus network, which seems to include a wide variety of providers all accross the country, because I used my plan when we were in Orlando and my allergies flaired up. As long as I use a provider in my network, I receive discounted rates, which keeps my healthcare costs relatively low. I normally don’t expect to meet my deductible, but in the event that I do, my plan pays a coinsurance of 80 percent after my deductible. Should a catastrophic event occur, and my expenses exceed another $15,000 after my deductible is met, I can rest easy knowing that my plan will pay 100 percent of my covered expenses for the rest of the year. I also have their dental coverage, and we like the Golden Rule dental insurance too.
